A practical checklist from parents who have done it many times.
What must go in the suitcase
- Baby food and bottles — Empty bottles can be filled on site, but special formula is best brought from home.
- A light pushchair with a reclining seat — Beach buggies are handy, but ordinary light pushchairs are more versatile.
- Swim nappies and a float vest — You can buy them on site, but the size and brand may not be what you want.
- Fever medicine and a thermometer — Hotels have a pharmacy, but bring your own preferred remedies.
The experienced-parents' rule: take twice as many nappies as you think you need, and half of everything else you planned.
What to safely buy on site
Shops in Turkish resorts usually stock everything for a baby's basics — nappies, wipes, jars of baby food and milk. Prices are often lower than in Latvia, so heavy items don't need to travel with you. Jars of purée and drinks for your baby weigh more than they cost.
Family-focused hotels have cots, bottle warmers and baths — check before booking. Many large hotels also offer early children's dinner and a special kids' buffet, which makes daily life easier for little travellers.
